Sports broadcaster Michael Akomea, popularly known as Sports Messiah, has opened up about the challenges he faced while trying to break into the media space. Speaking on Kessben TV with Mr. Bonez, he recounted a moment early in his career when a well-known sports presenter in Kumasi dismissed his request for an opportunity.
According to Sports Messiah, he once approached a prominent radio sports host in Kumasi seeking a chance to learn and work. Instead of encouragement, he was met with a discouraging response:
“You too, what can you do? You think we are here to joke? but he later wanted to work with me”
He admitted that the statement hurt him at the time, especially as a young man eager to prove himself. However, reflecting on the experience during the interview, he made it clear that he holds no grudges.
“I don’t blame the presenter that much,” he said, explaining that the media landscape is competitive and demanding, and many established personalities are under constant pressure. He added that the rejection only fueled his determination to work harder, improve his craft, and eventually carve a place for himself in the industry.
