Silence is not an option: Support AWLN Ghana’s efforts to eliminate digital violence against women and girls

The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana Chapter has issued a statement marking the commencement of the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, urging collective action to end digital violence against women and girls.
The statement highlights the alarming rise in cases of domestic abuse, harmful cultural practices, digital violence, and femicide in Ghana, emphasizing that gender-based violence is a national crisis demanding decisive leadership and bold action.
AWLN Ghana is calling for bold, collective action to end digital violence, including strengthening laws, improving safety systems, and investing in education, prevention, and survivor support.
The organization’s Chairperson, Dr. Charity Binka, has reaffirmed AWLN Ghana’s commitment to ending gender-based violence, emphasizing that every woman and girl in Ghana deserves to live free from fear, intimidation, and harm.
The 2025 theme, “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” highlights the urgent need for action to address the devastating consequences of digital violence, including cyberstalking, sexual extortion, and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
AWLN Ghana is urging all stakeholders, including government, technology companies, and communities, to take responsibility for creating a safe and empowering digital environment for women and girls.
