NDC Government is proactive in Galamsey fight – Mahmud Kabore
Mahmud Kabore, spokesperson for the Ministry of Natural Resources, has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for what he described as a proactive and results-driven approach in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as Galamsey.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Kabore stated that the current administration is not waiting for crises to emerge before taking action. Instead, he said, the government has already instituted targeted operations, monitoring reforms, and enforcement strategies designed to curb environmental destruction before it escalates.
According to Kabore, the Ministry has strengthened collaborations with security agencies, revamped its community-engagement structures, and increased on-ground surveillance in key mining zones. These efforts, he emphasized, show a clear shift toward preventive intervention rather than reactionary responses.
He said the government’s renewed measures aim not only to protect rivers and forest reserves but also to ensure that mining activities follow responsible and regulated practices. Kabore noted that recent interventions demonstrate a steady improvement in resource governance and a firm commitment to restoring degraded lands.
