Condolences: AWLN Ghana extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes a full and speedy recovery to those injured

A tragic incident occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on November 12, 2025, during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, resulting in the loss of six young women’s lives and leaving many others injured. The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Ghana Chapter has expressed deep sadness and condolences to the bereaved families, calling for a comprehensive review and decentralization of the recruitment process to ensure it is equitable, gender-responsive, and inclusive.
The incident highlights systemic vulnerabilities faced by young women in their pursuit of economic empowerment, underscoring the need for modern digital systems and regional recruitment centers to ensure a transparent and orderly process. AWLN Ghana is urging policymakers to accelerate investments in job creation, skills development, and entrepreneurship for young women and men across all regions.
The Ghana Armed Forces has launched an investigation into the incident, and the government has promised to support the burial and funeral arrangements of the victims. Prophet Kofi Oduro, General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, has also called for refunds to applicants, warning that the blood of the victims will be on the hands of the GAF if refunds are not made.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and calls for reform, with many questioning the management of mass recruitment drives in Ghana. As the nation mourns the loss of these young lives, there is a growing demand for systemic change that values human life and equal opportunity.
