People sit in Ghana and apply to the British Army and get selected without struggle, but Ghana is still primitive – Frank Otuo Acheampong

Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Frank Otuo Acheampong, has criticized the chaotic recruitment processes in Ghana following the tragic death of six applicants during a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr. Acheampong expressed shock and frustration over the continued use of what he described as “archaic and primitive” methods in national recruitment exercises.
“People sit in Ghana and apply to the British Army and get selected without struggle, but Ghana is still primitive and had to let applicants get congested at screening centres,” he lamented.
According to him, the deaths at the El-Wak Stadium could have been avoided if authorities had adopted modern, technology-driven recruitment systems. He pointed out that many advanced countries, including the United Kingdom, have successfully moved their military and public service recruitment processes online, making them more efficient and safer.
Mr. Acheampong noted that it is unacceptable for young people seeking to serve their country to lose their lives in the process, and called for accountability from those responsible for organising the exercise. He urged the government and security agencies to learn from the incident and immediately digitise the recruitment system to prevent future tragedies.
The stampede at El-Wak occurred when thousands of applicants turned up for the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment screening, leading to overcrowding and chaos. Eyewitnesses reported that inadequate crowd control measures contributed to the fatal incident.
