A small quantum of Nkoko Nkitinkiti will make a better and more delicious soup than a large quantity of imported “nkoko fose’ – Agric Ministry

The Head of Communications at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Mr. Apraku Lartey, has praised the quality of Ghana’s locally produced poultry, saying that even a small quantum of Nkoko Nkitinkiti chicken can make “a better and more delicious soup” than larger portions of imported chicken.

Speaking on Kessben FM ahead of the official launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme in Kumasi today, Mr. Lartey emphasized that the project is not just about increasing production, but about promoting healthier, tastier, and homegrown food for Ghanaians.

Even a small quantity of local chickens will make a better soup than plenty of the frozen imported ones,” he said.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti Programme is a new government initiative aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s poultry industry by empowering farmers, creating jobs, and reducing the country’s heavy reliance on imported chicken — which currently accounts for over 90% of national consumption.

Under the programme, MoFA will provide farmers with day-old chicks, feed, vaccines, and technical support, alongside a buy-back arrangement to guarantee markets for locally produced poultry.

The launch event in Kumasi marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout, with over 55,000 households expected to benefit from the initiative in its first phase.

Mr. Lartey encouraged Ghanaians to support the programme by choosing locally produced chicken, adding that consuming Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry would not only promote Ghanaian farmers but also ensure tastier, healthier meals for households.
