NAIMOS Task Force Cracks Down on Galamsey Kingpin Polluting Ayensu River

In a major breakthrough, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has arrested a notorious galamsey kingpin responsible for polluting the Ayensu River at Bisiasi in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
The kingpin, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was apprehended during a raid on the illegal mining site on November 9, 2025. The NAIMOS Task Force also seized a pistol, Ghc100,000 in cash, and various galamsey equipment.
According to sources, the kingpin attempted to bribe the task force with the cash, but they refused and instead seized the money and equipment. The site has been closed down, and the suspect is currently in custody.
The Ayensu River is a vital water source for communities in the area, and the galamsey activities have been causing significant environmental damage. The NAIMOS Task Force is working to restore the river to its original state.
The public is urged to report any galamsey activities to the authorities to help stop the menace.
