The Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Luton, Nana Bonsu, has called on members and delegates of the party to prioritize loyalty over competence in their decision-making ahead of the upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.
According to him, the success and unity of the NPP depend more on loyal and dedicated members than on those who may be competent but lack commitment to the party’s cause.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Akua-Piesie Asare Bediako, Nana Bonsu drew biblical parallels to emphasize his point, saying God often chose loyal individuals over competent ones to carry out His work.
“God ignored competence and chose loyalty. The people Jesus Christ selected to follow Him were not the most competent, but they were loyal and obedient,” he stated.
He explained that the NPP has reached a critical moment where members must reflect deeply on the values that sustain the party, stressing that every member — from the top leadership to the grassroots — must realign their commitment to unity and service.
“Those preaching competence must understand that loyalty keeps the party together. We need to sit up, from the very first person in the party to the last,” he added.
Nana Bonsu’s comments come as internal conversations within the NPP intensify over what qualities delegates should prioritize in choosing the party’s next leader. His call for loyalty over competence adds another perspective to the ongoing debate within the party as it prepares for the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries.
