NAIMOS Conducts Dawn Strike in Eastern Region, Arrests Foreign Galamseyers

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) Task Force has conducted a massive dawn strike in the Eastern Region, arresting several foreign nationals involved in illegal mining activities.

According to reports, the operation took place in Osino, Fanteakwa South District, where 32 Nigerien and 4 Ghanaian nationals were arrested. The NAIMOS Task Force overpowered machete-wielding individuals guarding the galamsey site, while the owner is currently on the run.

This operation is part of NAIMOS’ ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, which has devastated Ghana’s environment and natural resources. The task force has been intensifying its crackdown on galamsey activities, with recent arrests and seizures of equipment in the Bole/Bamboi area.

The government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating galamsey and protecting Ghana’s environment. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has emphasized the importance of regulated, sustainable mining practices.
