State Funeral for Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Set for November 28

The Government of Ghana has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late Former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Independence Square in Accra.

The ceremony, to be held under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama, will pay tribute to Mrs. Rawlings for her outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and national development throughout her lifetime.

According to a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the state funeral is a recognition of Mrs. Rawlings’ lifelong dedication to advancing the rights of women and children in Ghana and her invaluable role in shaping national progress.

Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001. She was also the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, an organization credited with improving the socio-economic conditions of women, particularly in rural communities.

Dignitaries, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and the general public are expected to attend the solemn ceremony to pay their final respects to the former First Lady.
