DVLA’s New Measure: Number plates to be registered to individuals, so if you’re selling your car, you take it off – Jerry Edem Aflabo

The Ashanti Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Jerry Edem Aflabo, has revealed that new measures are being introduced to ensure that vehicle number plates are registered to individuals rather than the vehicles themselves.

Speaking on Kessben FM with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Mr. Aflabo explained that under this new system, vehicle owners will be required to remove and keep their number plates when selling their cars. The buyer will then have to register the vehicle in their own name and be issued a new plate.

“New measures are coming to the DVLA. Number plates will now be registered to individuals, so when you sell your car, you take off your number plate, it remains yours,” Mr. Aflabo stated.

He emphasized that the policy is aimed at improving accountability, preventing vehicle-related fraud, and ensuring proper traceability of ownership. According to him, this reform will also help law enforcement agencies track vehicles more efficiently and maintain a cleaner, more secure database.

Mr. Aflabo added that the DVLA is committed to modernizing its operations and ensuring greater transparency within the vehicle registration system.
