GNASSM Condemns Mob Attack on NAIMOS at Hwidiem

The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) has strongly condemned a mob attack on the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, and has raised concerns about the safety of security personnel and the rule of law.

Call for Calm and Investigation
GNASSM has urged all parties to remain calm and called for a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident. The association has also appealed to the youth in mining areas to direct any grievances or concerns regarding NAIMOS’s activities through their local leadership and appropriate legal channels for resolution.

Collaboration with NAIMOS
GNASSM has been collaborating with NAIMOS to undertake sensitization programs aimed at educating miners on the operations of the anti-illegal mining taskforce and promoting peaceful coexistence between miners and security personnel. The association believes that such attacks are counterproductive and undermine efforts to promote responsible and sustainable mining practices.

Demand for Action
GNASSM has called on the government to take decisive action against anyone found responsible or complicit in the attack. The association believes that such measures will serve as a deterrent to others who may consider taking similar lawless actions.

Respect for the Rule of Law
GNASSM wishes to remind all mining communities of the importance of respecting the rule of law and the authority of security agencies. The association believes that the rule of law must be upheld to ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens
