Corruption Fight: External auditors have been requesting for ‘Akranke3 Nkwan’ from same institutions they asked to audit – Dr Simon Boateng reveals

Lecturer and Deputy Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Atwima Constituency, Dr. Simon Boateng, has expressed concern over the challenges facing Ghana’s fight against corruption, pointing to unprofessional conduct among some external auditors as a major setback.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Dr. Boateng revealed that some auditors dispatched to various institutions to conduct financial reviews often request food and other favors from the very institutions they are meant to audit. According to him, this practice compromises their independence and objectivity, making it difficult to expose wrongdoing and enforce accountability.

“When auditors go to institutions and start asking for food (Akrante3 Nkwan) and other forms of hospitality, they get compromised. That is why fighting corruption in Ghana has become so difficult,” Dr. Boateng lamented.

He emphasized that such behavior erodes public trust in oversight institutions and weakens the integrity of Ghana’s auditing processes. Dr. Boateng called for stricter professional standards, ethical training, and oversight mechanisms to ensure auditors maintain neutrality and resist inducements that could influence their reports.

He further urged the relevant authorities to take disciplinary action against errant auditors, stressing that without firm accountability and transparency, Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts will continue to face significant obstacles.
