Ghana Calls for Immediate Cessation of Hostilities in Sudan

The Government of Ghana has expressed grave concern over the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict has resulted in a humanitarian catastrophe, including significant loss of life, massive displacement of civilians, and widespread destruction.

Humanitarian Crisis
The continued fighting has left millions of people destitute and facing starvation, undermining regional security and threatening the progress made toward a peaceful transition in the country. Ghana stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan and reiterates its commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance across the African continent.

Call to Action
Ghana calls for:

Immediate cessation of hostilities: An immediate, complete, and unconditional halt to all military operations nationwide.
Humanitarian aid: The immediate establishment of safe corridors for the rapid and unrestricted delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to all affected regions.
Protection of civilians: Strict adherence to International Humanitarian Law, ensuring safe passage and protection for all citizens, aid workers, and medical personnel.
Return to negotiations: The parties to return to the negotiating table to establish a path toward a civilian-led transitional government.
International cooperation: Regional and international actors to cease any support that fuels the conflict and to fully comply with the UN arms embargo on Darfur.

Regional and International Support
Ghana urges regional and international actors, including the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to intensify diplomatic efforts and mediation to facilitate a peaceful resolution. The Government of Ghana remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and promoting long-term stability in Sudan.
