Delegates of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are increasingly identifying former Education Minister, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, as a strong presidential contender ahead of the 2028 general elections, according to his campaign spokesperson, Yaw Opoku Mensah.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Akua-Piesie Asare Bediako, Mensah revealed that a fresh wave of enthusiasm is sweeping through the NPP, centered on Dr. Adutwum’s integrity, competence, and leadership qualities.

“There is air blowing in the New Patriotic Party, with delegates seeing presidential material in the former Education Minister,” Mensah said, suggesting a groundswell of support within the party for Dr. Adutwum’s leadership ambitions.

Delegates Reject Vote Buying:

Mensah described what he called a “shocking revelation” within the NPP — a shift away from the culture of vote buying that has characterized some internal contests in the past.

According to him, delegates are now choosing credibility and vision over monetary inducement.

“The era of vote buying in the party is coming to an end, with delegates expressing their interest in Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum becoming the flagbearer for Npp,” he emphasized.

He added that this marks a maturing phase in the party’s internal politics.

“The days when delegates were seen merely as election machines are over. The NPP is entering an era where members recognize a formidable candidate in Dr. Adutwum,” Mensah stated.

Integrity and Leadership

Highlighting the qualities that distinguish Dr. Adutwum from other potential contenders, Mensah described him as a disciplined and incorruptible leader who focuses on issues rather than insults.

“He has integrity, knowledge and skills, and he’s a candidate who runs a clean and respectful campaign. These attributes make him stand out from other candidates,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum, who served as Minister for Education, is widely credited for introducing innovative educational reforms and championing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education across Ghana.

Preparation for 2028

Mr. Mensah expressed confidence that Dr. Adutwum is well-prepared to lead the NPP and eventually the country.

“God has prepared Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum to lead the party,” Mensah affirmed, noting that the former Minister’s vision aligns with the NPP’s long-term goals of national transformation through education and innovation.

As the party begins to look beyond the 2024 elections, Dr. Adutwum’s name is emerging prominently in political discussions — signaling that the race for the NPP’s 2028 flagbearership may already be taking shape.
