For 2-3 months, some NPP MPs never come to their constituencies meanwhile the real work is on the grounds – Dr Simon Boateng laments
Dr Simon Boateng has voiced concern about the level of engagement of some Members of Parliament (MPs) from his party in the Ashanti region, arguing that while they are seemingly active in Accra, they are missing from the grassroots.
Speaking on Kessben FM, he lamented that “for 2-3 months some NPP MPs never come to their constituencies, they like staying in Accra too much meanwhile the real work is on the grounds.”
Dr Boateng argues that representation demands more than occasional visits or media appearances, it requires consistent presence in the constituency.
He contends that too many MPs have relocated effectively to the capital, leaving party structures and voters in their constituencies without leadership presence or direct contact for extended periods. This, he warns, risks hollowing out party support, weakening oversight of local governance, and undermining accountability to constituents.
According to him, the constituencies expect MPs to coordinate development projects, listen to community concerns, and be visibly present. When MPs are absent, local frustration and a sense of neglect can grow.
He said for party cohesion and mobilization (especially ahead of primaries or elections), on-the-ground staff activity and MP interaction with grassroots is vital.
