Sanitation Brigade for Development to Launch Anti-filth Campaign in November
The Sanitation Brigade for Development, an auxiliary wing of the Young Progressive Network, is set to launch a major sanitation awareness and community mobilization campaign in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality in November.
The initiative seeks to encourage responsible waste disposal practices and reduce sanitation-related diseases in the municipality.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Convener of the Young Progressive Network, Patrick Asford Boadu, emphasized the need for collective effort to improve environmental cleanliness and public health.
“We must understand that our health is directly tied to the state of our environment. When we dispose of waste indiscriminately, we expose ourselves and our families to preventable diseases,” he said.
“Your health is your wealth, and it begins with a clean environment.”
Mr. Boadu noted that government continues to spend huge amounts of money annually to treat diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever, and cholera — many of which are linked to poor sanitation.
He stressed that these funds could otherwise be used to address developmental priorities.
“A lot of money that could have been directed into improving roads, schools, water systems and other developmental needs is rather used to tackle sanitation-related challenges simply because we fail to keep our surroundings clean,” he explained.
The upcoming campaign will involve community education, school engagements, cleanup activities, market sensitizations, and collaboration with traditional leaders and youth groups to instill a culture of cleanliness.
According to the Young Progressive Network, the success of the initiative will depend largely on active community participation.
“This campaign is for all of us. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. We are calling on residents, opinion leaders, businesses and institutions to support and take part in this effort,” Boadu added.
The official launch event, expected to draw stakeholders from across the Municipality, will take place in November at a venue to be announced in the coming days.
