NACOC Storms Akuapem Akropong, Arrests 13 in Major Drug Raid

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has carried out a massive operation at Akuapem Akropong in the Eastern Region, targeting drinking bars and suspected drug dens. The surprise raid, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, led to the arrest of 13 individuals believed to be involved in the possession and distribution of narcotic substances. The exercise formed part of NACOC’s intensified nationwide campaign to clamp down on the sale and use of illegal drugs in local communities.

During the operation, officers retrieved a range of narcotic substances including quantities of cannabis, hashish, ecstasy tablets, and “Collos,” a potent strain of cannabis. The team also discovered synthetic opioids such as Tramadol, as well as cannabis-infused beverages, including bitters and locally brewed sobolo drinks. These items have been seized as evidence while samples are undergoing forensic analysis to aid ongoing investigations.

NACOC officials have assured the public that the operation marks the beginning of a sustained effort to curb drug-related activities in the Akuapem area and beyond. The 13 suspects are currently in custody and will be screened for possible prosecution. The Commission has further urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information that can help identify and dismantle networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
