Liveband artists have an edge in security service recruitment – Okatakyie reveals
Popular Kumasi-based liveband artist, Okatakyie, has revealed a surprising benefit of being a live performer , easier recruitment into Ghana’s security services.
Speaking in an interview with Fante Quoo on Kessben, the performer shared insights into how musical talent can open unexpected doors.
According to Okatakyie, one of the lesser-known advantages of being a liveband artist is the high demand for musicians within the military, police, and other security service bands.
“One of the big advantages of being a liveband artist is that we are easily recruited in the security services,” he said. “They always need skilled musicians for their bands, trumpeters, drummers, and vocalists, so if you’re good at what you do, it’s a plus.”
He explained that many of his colleagues have successfully joined the security services through music, often bypassing the usual challenges faced by other applicants.
He encouraged young musicians to stay disciplined, master their craft, and remain open to such possibilities.
“Music is not just for entertainment, it can open doors you never imagined,” he added.
