Mahama Announces Resumption of Western Regional Hospital, Completion Expected in 18 Months

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the resumption of construction works on the long-stalled Western Regional Hospital project located at Apemenyim in the Ahanta West Municipality.
The President made the announcement during a one-day working visit to the Western Region on Tuesday October 21,2025, where he also cut the sod for the commencement of the dualisation of the Takoradi–Cape Coast section of the N1 Highway.
Speaking at the hospital site, President Mahama said the government had resolved all issues that had delayed the project and assured residents that construction would now proceed without interruption.
“I am happy to announce that all the challenges that stalled this important project have now been resolved,” President Mahama stated. “Work will resume immediately, and we are determined to see it through to completion within the next 18 months.”
The President inspected ongoing works at the facility and reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure across the country.
“The completion of the Western Regional Hospital will significantly enhance access to quality healthcare services for our people,” he said. “Every region deserves a modern, well-equipped hospital, and this project is part of our broader plan to strengthen the health sector nationwide.”
President Mahama also used the opportunity to reaffirm his government’s dedication to upgrading the Western Region’s road network under the Big Push Initiative, a flagship infrastructure programme aimed at revitalising key national projects.
“We are committed to completing all deteriorating roads in this region,” he emphasized. “Good roads are not just about transportation — they are about development, safety, and connecting communities to opportunities.”
