Dumsor in 2016 affected my song’s success – Gospel Singer, “Aha Ye Kwan Ho’ hitmaker Mabel Okyere reveals

Ghanaian gospel singer Mabel Okyere has opened up about how the 2016 power crisis, popularly known as Dumsor, negatively impacted the music industry, especially gospel music.
Speaking with Mr. Bonez on Kessben TV, the “Aha ye Kwan Ho” hitmaker revealed that one of her songs failed to make the expected impact due to the nationwide energy crisis at the time.
“Because of Dumsor in 2016, most gospel songs didn’t penetrate well,” she said. “Even one song I released around that time didn’t hit like it should have. The power cuts really affected everything.”
According to Mabel, the erratic power supply made it difficult for both artists and fans. Music promotion on TV and radio suffered, live events were limited, and even studio sessions were affected due to frequent outages.
She stressed that gospel music, which often relies on emotional connection and consistent playtime, needs stable platforms for it to flourish, something Dumsor robbed many artists of during that period.
Despite that setback, Mabel Okyere has continued to build her brand in the gospel space and remains one of the voices pushing the genre forward.
