I will never say NDC is not part of people doing Galamsey, but our Gov’t does not condone it – Says NDC communicator, Moro Yakubu

Speaking on Kessben TV’s Adwenkyere, Moro Yakubu, a communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), addressed criticisms linking his party to illegal mining, popularly known as “galamsey.”
Yakubu made clear that while he would not deny that some NDC members might be involved in illegal mining activities, the party itself does not support or condone such actions. He stated, in effect: “I will never say NDC is not part of people doing galamsey, but our Party does not condone it.”
By admitting that some individuals within the NDC may be implicated, Yakubu avoids appearing defensive or blind to criticism. At the same time, he draws a line: engagement in galamsey is not a sanctioned policy of the party or its leadership.
Yakubu’s remarks come amid intensifying public and political scrutiny over illegal mining in Ghana, a practice that continues to threaten water bodies, forests, and rural livelihoods. The debate over how deep political parties are implicated is not new. Critics often argue that political cover or tacit approval allows some illegal operations to persist with impunity.
For its part, the NDC has made statements in recent months asserting that they will hold members found culpable accountable. For example, party officials have insisted that anti-galamsey efforts will not be compromised, and that known offenders, even within their ranks, must be dealt with under the law.
