By Prof. Freeman Joseph Danquah, University of Bradford

The Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the distinguished leadership of the Rt. Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu (popularly known as Joe Wise), has so far demonstrated remarkable efficiency, professionalism, unbiasedness, and composure in the discharge of his mandate. The committee’s current performance clearly outperforms the previous exercises, demonstrating the valuable lessons learnt from past experiences.
From the outset, the Committee, chaired by Joe Wise, ably supported by the Secretary, Mr. William Yamoah, and other members, has set a new benchmark in administrative diligence and operational transparency. Their conduct thus far reflects a renewed commitment to ensuring a credible and seamless electoral process within the Party.
Noteworthy achievements include:
Swift and Effective Communication: The Committee has ensured the prompt dissemination of information, promoting openness and accessibility throughout the process.
Active Stakeholder Engagement: Through timely press releases and public statements, the Committee has provided consistent clarity on issues, effectively countering misinformation and dispelling false narratives.
Transparent Balloting Process: The recent balloting exercise for presidential candidates was conducted smoothly and devoid of controversy. a refreshing improvement from the challenges witnessed in the past.
Commitment to Democratic Standards: The general conduct of the Committee so far has reinforced trust and confidence in the Party’s internal democratic mechanisms.
While lauding this exemplary start, it is important to underscore the need for continued adherence to the principles of fairness, transparency, integrity, and accountability. The committee, especially its chairman, must remain firm and impartial in its decision-making, act courageously without fear or favour, and insulate the process from the influence of aspirant camps or any Machiavellian “invisible hands.”
On the critical matter of album validation, transparency must remain the guiding principle. The Committee is urged to ensure that all procedures comply strictly with the Party’s constitutional provisions and established standards to protect the credibility and legitimacy of the final electoral roll.
The Joe Wise–led Elections Committee has so far inspired confidence in the Party’s ability to manage its internal processes with professionalism and integrity. If this trajectory is maintained, the upcoming presidential primaries will not only strengthen the NPP’s internal democracy but also project the Party as a model of credible political organisation ready to recapture power.
Thus far, the progress has been excellent.
