Ghana Pioneers AI Innovation in West Africa with Accra Agentcon 2025

Ghana has made a groundbreaking move in the AI landscape by hosting Accra Agentcon 2025, a cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence event aimed at promoting African-built AI models and championing the continent’s AI independence. Held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, the event brought together experts, innovators, and enthusiasts to explore the vast potential of Agentic AI in Africa.

Empowering Africans with AI Skills

Samuel Adranyi, CEO of Afrilogic Solutions and a member of the Global AI Community, organizers of AgentCon, Accra, emphasized the importance of creating awareness and practical engagement with AI agents. “Our goal is to equip professionals, students, and enthusiasts with the skills to leverage AI for productivity and resourcefulness,” he said.

The event featured engaging, hands-on sessions powered by Microsoft technologies; including Azure AI Foundry, the Agentic Framework, MS365 Copilot, and Copilot Studio, enabling participants to explore, build, and deploy real-world Agentic AI solutions.

Breaking Free from Data Colonization

Dr. Dr. David King Boison, AI Strategist and Lead Consultant for the AI Africa Project, warned against “data colonization,” where Africa relies heavily on Western-built AI systems. “We need to develop our own AI models that understand our culture, language, and realities,” he stressed. Dr. Boison emphasized the need for Africa to seize the AI revolution and redefine its economic models, build sovereign data systems, and utilize its resources to generate prosperity.

Mainstreaming AI in Ghana

Dr. Nii Longdon Sowah, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Department of Computer Engineering, described Agentcon as a pivotal step in mainstreaming AI in Ghana. “AI affects everyone, from mechanics to farmers,” he said. “Let’s make AI conversations mainstream, so every Ghanaian can learn how to use it responsibly.”

The event featured innovative tools, including the AI Prompt Bible, designed to help Africans use AI for problem-solving and entrepreneurship. As the first edition of its kind in West Africa, Accra Agentcon 2025 marks the beginning of a continental movement to build a uniquely African AI ecosystem.
