Chieftaincy Clashes in Sampa: IGP Responds”: High-Level Delegation and Security Teams Deployed to Area

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno today 7th October, 2025, visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to check on a policer officer who was critically injured during recent violent clashes between two rival groups at Sampa, in the Bono Region.

The officer, together with seven others got injured when the Police vehicle in which they were travelling got caught up in an exchange of gunfire between two rival groups at Sampa and veered off the road into a ditch. No officer lost his life during the attack. The seven injured officers were treated and discharged, while one who sustained severe injuries was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further medical attention. The officer is in a stable condition and he is responding to treatment.

The IGP has also deployed a high powered delegation comprising some members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to Sampa assess the security situation, visit the injured officers who were treated and discharged and see to the welfare of operational officers deployed to the area. In addition, the team will hold engagements with police officers in the region, the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders at Sampa to ensure lasting peace in the area.

Meanwhile, reenforcement teams made up of officers from the SWAT and Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been deployed to intensify patrols and beef up security in Sampa and surrounding communities.
