Propose to your female colleagues & the ladies in the town, and desist from teacher-student relationships – GNAT tells Teachers

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called on male teachers to demonstrate professionalism and moral responsibility by avoiding inappropriate relationships with their students.
Instead, the association is encouraging them to form meaningful relationships with their female colleagues or other adult women in their communities.
Speaking at a recent event focused on promoting ethical conduct within the teaching profession, GNAT leadership stressed that teacher-student romantic or sexual relationships are not only unethical but also harmful to the integrity of the education system and the welfare of students.
GNAT emphasized that such behavior can undermine public trust, damage students’ futures, and potentially result in serious legal consequences. The association reminded teachers that maintaining professional boundaries is not optional but a core responsibility of the profession.
The call comes as part of GNAT’s ongoing campaign to uphold discipline, protect students, and preserve the dignity of the teaching profession in Ghana. The organization says it will continue to support training, advocacy, and disciplinary measures to ensure teachers act in line with national educational ethics and child protection standards.
This firm stance is seen as a necessary step to safeguard schools as safe learning environments and to maintain public confidence in Ghana’s educational institutions.
