Benjamin Quashie pledges support for President Mahama’s ‘Reset’ Diplomacy, aims at driving more SA investments

Ghana’s newly commissioned High commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Kofi Quashie has pledged his full support for what he terms as a reset of Ghana’s diplomacy under the new Mahama Administration. President John Mahama In September this year launched the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for Ghana’s heads of missions. The KPIs, which are the first in Ghana’s history, seek to ensure that the heads of mission are sent out with a measurable performance framework to assist the President in achieving his Reset Vision for Ghana.
The 500 KPIs include securing scholarships and facilitating exchange programmes with foreign institutions to enhance Ghana’s human capital, and driving a minimum 10 per cent annual increase in tourists’ arrivals to Ghana to create jobs and boost foreign exchange reserves.
Others are maintaining strict adherence to financial regulations and procurement laws across all missions and strengthening Ghana’s security interests by improving intelligence sharing and facilitating collaboration with foreign security agencies.
Speaking in an interview with Blessed Sogah of Joy News Ghana’s Highest envoy to South Africa Benjamin Kofi Quashie noted that “the novel thing that has never happened in our diplomatic relations and Presdient Mahama wants is for us to bring investors but what (the president) is saying that the era of you as a diplomat going to be begging with cups in hands is over, we negotiate to ensure that the interest of both countries are aligned”.
Born on May 1, 1982 Benjamin Kofi Quashie who was commissioned by President John Mahama on October 2, set another feat by becoming the youngest diplomat to serve in the capacity as Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, another testament argue depicting the arguments of proponents who say that blueprint of President. President Mahama in his keynote address during the launch of the new KPI for Ghana’s envoys noted that the country’s mission had evolved into paths of economic engagement, facilitating trade, attracting investments, and promoting innovation.
