The Okaikoi North Municipality has joined the nationwide National Sanitation Day exercise with renewed vigor under the leadership of its new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honourable Christian Tetteh Badger, who is spearheading efforts to achieve President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a cleaner Ghana.
Speaking to the media during the cleanup exercise on Saturday, October 4,2025, the newly appointed MCE emphasized the importance of community participation in the sanitation drive.
“I am encouraging all Ghanaians, particularly residents of Okaikoi North Municipality, to fully patronize and actively participate in this cleanup exercise,” said Honourable Christian Tetteh Badger. “This is not just a municipal initiative, but a collective effort to achieve the vision of our President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for a cleaner and healthier Ghana.”
The MCE outlined concrete steps the municipality is taking to ensure sustainable sanitation improvements beyond the National Sanitation Day exercise.
“We are committed to maintaining the cleanliness of our municipality beyond today’s exercise,” Honourable Badger stated. “To this end, we will be awarding contracts to specialized companies to take charge of rubbish management, particularly in our road medians, to ensure we maintain a clean city throughout the year.”
The National Sanitation Day initiative represents a coordinated effort between local government authorities and community members to address sanitation challenges across Ghana. Under the new MCE’s leadership, Okaikoi North Municipality is positioning itself as a model for effective waste management and community engagement.
The cleanup exercise saw participation from various community groups, local organizations, and municipal staff, demonstrating the collaborative spirit that Honourable Badger hopes to foster in achieving long-term sanitation goals.
The municipality’s approach of combining immediate cleanup efforts with sustainable waste management contracts signals a comprehensive strategy to maintain environmental cleanliness and public health standards in line with national development objectives.
