Armed Attack at Gbintiri Checkpoint: Police Launch Investigation

The North East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a deadly armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers stationed at the Gbintiri Inland checkpoint near Nalerigu in the North East Region. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unknown gunmen opened fire on the officers at their duty post.

Details of the Incident

Victims: Two GIS officers were attacked, resulting in the death of Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammed. His colleague, AICO II Oppong Daniel, sustained severe gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu.
Stolen Items: The attackers made off with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers.
Recovered Items: Police retrieved a service rifle used by the Immigration personnel at the checkpoint and AK-47 shell casings from the scene.

Investigation and Response

The police have assured the public that a full-scale manhunt is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. The North East Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying and arresting the attackers.
