SAD NEWS: Ghana Immigration Service officer killed, Another Injured in attack at Gbintri checkpoint

A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, October 3, 2025, when two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers were attacked at the Gbintri inland checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North-East Region.
The attack, which occurred around 1:30 a.m., claimed the life of Rafiq Mohammed (AICOII), who died at the scene. His colleague, Oppong Daniel (AICOII), sustained serious gunshot wounds to the jaw and back. He is currently receiving medical attention at the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Nalerigu.
Preliminary investigations at the scene uncovered an AK-47 shell casing and a GIS-issued rifle with registration number GH/GIS/HQACN 668516-1646.
A joint response team comprising officers from the Ghana Police Service, led by Superintendent Francis Brobbey, Municipal Police Commander in Gambaga, and GIS officers under the leadership of DIS Moro Tanko Mohammed, North Regional Intelligence Officer, has been deployed.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the attack. Further updates will be communicated through official channels as the case develops.
