What will I get if I lie about this? Galamsey is going on in my constituency – Ahafo Ano South West MP, Hon Elvis Osei Dapaah

Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West, Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, admitted that illegal mining (galamsey) is actively taking place in his constituency, calling it a growing concern for local residents and the environment.
Speaking on Kessben FM with KOD, the MP dismissed suggestions that his claims were politically motivated. He affirmed the seriousness of the situation and emphasized the environmental and social damage being caused.
More notably, Hon. Dapaah made a bold appeal to the presidency, saying only the president has the absolute power to stop it. According to him, the galamsey problem has grown beyond the capacity of local and regional authorities and now requires decisive national leadership from President John Dramani Mahama to bring it under control.
Galamsey continues to pose a significant challenge in Ghana, especially in resource-rich areas like the Ashanti Region. Despite numerous task forces and policy promises over the years, illegal mining remains widespread.
By placing responsibility on President Mahama, the MP has raised expectations for firm national action, possibly reflecting growing frustration among local leaders over the issue.
