The Galamsey dialogue by President Mahama with CSOs is needless, He can end it with a simple button press – Dr Simon Boateng

Dr Simon Boteng has dismissed President John Mahama’s initiative to engage Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in a national dialogue on illegal mining, locally known as Galamsey, calling it “needless”
According to the deputy NPP secretary at the Atwima Nwabiagya Constituency, who spoke on Kessben TV with Wofa Kofi Appiah, the president has the executive power to end illegal mining immediately without resorting to consultations and discussions.
“Why do we need a dialogue?” he said. The President knows where the problem is. If he truly wants to stop galamsey, he can do it at the press of a button. He doesn’t need to talk to anyone.
President Mahama has scheduled a national dialogue aimed at finding inclusive and lasting solutions to illegal mining.
His office maintains that galamsey is a complex issue involving poverty, unemployment, political complicity, and weak law enforcement, factors that require more than just presidential orders to overcome.
Nonetheless, analysts like Dr. Simon believe that political leaders have long used the “complexity” argument to cover up their own complicity or inaction.
