Dr. Attafuah Calls For Transparent And Efficient School Placement System

Educationist Dr. Attefuah has emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Ghana’s school placement system to ensure fairness, transparency, and efficiency in the country’s education sector.
According to him, Ghana’s educational structure has gone through several reforms, from the Middle School Leaving Certificate to the Junior Secondary School, and subsequently the Junior High School, which now leads to Senior High School. Despite these reforms, he noted that challenges in placement continue to affect the quality of education.
He stressed that the placement process must be devoid of unnecessary frustrations, while ensuring equity in access to quality education. Recalling former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s era, Dr. Attefuah said a system was initiated to upgrade some second-cycle institutions to Grade ‘A’ status. This, he explained, ensured that every district had standardized vocational, grammar, and technical schools to ease pressure on existing Grade ‘A’ schools.
Citing a recent example, Dr. Attefuah revealed that a parent had complained about his ward being placed at Wenchi Salvation Army Secondary, despite opting for Abomosu Secondary. He added that the parent initially assumed the child had been placed at Kpeseemkpe Secondary in the Northern Region, but was later surprised to learn that the school was located in the Eastern Region.
“I was astonished to see that school in Mamprugu Manduri in the North-East region, a well-crafted establishment worthy of attracting learners,” Dr. Attefuah remarked.
He further cautioned that politics must be kept away from education, stressing that the future of Ghana’s children and the nation depends on a fair and credible system. He called on all stakeholders to contribute their quota to make the education system better for national development.
