Samed Akalilu Heads Free Zones Authority Branch In Ashanti

Mr. Samed Akalilu, a former Ashanti Regional Communications Officer and member of the 2016 John Mahama Campaign Team, has been appointed to lead the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA).

This appointment is effective from October 1, 2025.

Prior to this, Mr. Akalilu served as the Marketing and Promotions Officer at the GFZA headquarters since March of this year.

Bringing nearly two decades of experience to his new role, Mr. Akalilu is a versatile professional whose background spans several fields.

Background:
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Christian Service University (CSU) and a master’s degree in Communication and Politics from the University of Ghana, Legon.

His experience includes research work and serving as a recycling supervisor at Smart Solutions Limited in Leicester, United Kingdom.

A former intern at the Daily Graphic newsroom, as well as a news reporter for Multimedia Ghana Limited and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, the new regional head also possesses a strong connection to his community.

Social Work:
He previously served as an assemblyman for the Ahwiaa Zongo Electoral Area in Kwabre East.

Reaction to the Appointment:
Speaking with this reporter over the weekend, the former face of NDC Communications in the Ashanti Region expressed his delight at the honor.

Mr. Akalilu humbly thanked the President for the appointment.

He also extended his gratitude to his immediate superior, Dr. Mary Awusi, for nominating him for the position.

“I am glad and humbled by the assignment to head the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Free Zones Authority,” the Regional Director stated.

“I do not take the confidence reposed in me by CEO, Dr. Mary Awusi, lightly”, he added.

Commitment to Service:
Mr. Akalilu pledged his commitment to justifying the trust placed in him, specifically by undertaking reforms at the Ashanti Regional GFZA office.

He also promised to leverage this opportunity to better connect governance to industry players and to the people of the Ashanti Region.

“I am inordinately grateful for the opportunity to serve and reconnect with the great people in this beautiful region,” Mr. Akalilu affirmed.
