Apologise before smoking peacepipe – Ahafo Ano S-W DCE Abubakar Sedik takes on MP Elvis Dapaah over Mankranso election raid

Alhaji Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area,  has publicly demanded that Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, the Member of Parliament (MP), issue a formal public apology before any attempt is made to restore calm and cooperation in the constituency.

The demand comes after serious accusations aired on Kessben TV, in which Sedik claims that MP Dapaah orchestrated a military‐led raid of Mankranso on the night of December 7, 2024, election.

This confrontation exacerbates existing tensions that followed the hotly contested 2024 parliamentary elections, and raises questions about accountability, reconciliation, and political responsibility in the district.

The December 7, 2024 parliamentary and presidential polls were among the most fiercely contested in Ahafo Ano South West. After initial results, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Sedik Abubakar, raised strong objections to the conduct and counting of votes.

Following court‐mandated re‑collation, the Electoral Commission declared Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winner on December 21, 2024, with 16,680 votes versus 16,540.

The narrow margin (140 votes) and allegations of irregularities ignited frustration within NDC ranks. Some youth radicalized by the result destroyed party property in Mankranso, accusing party leadership of yielding the seat unwillingly.

During a televised appearance on Kessben TV with KOD, Alhaji Sedik alleged that on election night, Hon. Dapaah colluded with military personnel to raid Mankranso, ostensibly to disrupt or influence the counting or control of polling stations. Sedik argues that before peace or reconciliation talks can proceed, Dapaah must publicly withdraw or clarify those actions and apologize to the people.

Sedik’s position is anchored in the belief that reconciliation cannot be built on unaddressed grievances that a foundational confession or acknowledgment is necessary to legitimize any attempt at unity or “smoking the peace pipe.”

Thus far, MP Dapaah has not publicly responded in detail to the accusations of orchestrating a military raid.
