Value Addition in Agriculture: Ghana pushes for value addition in agriculture to ensure sustainable industrial growth and economic transformation.

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has reaffirmed its commitment to driving industrial growth through agriculture, as the West Africa Agri Show (WAAS 2025) opened in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Ministry’s Director in charge of Administration, Mr. Yaw Sekyi, underscored government’s efforts to transform the agricultural value chain through strategic initiatives such as the Feed the Industry Programme, Agribusiness Development and Value Extension Programme, and the Made-in-Ghana Campaign. He said these interventions are aimed at strengthening linkages between farmers, processors, and markets to ensure sustainable industrial growth.

He noted that the Ministry is also reviewing key policies, including the National Trade and Industrial Policies, and developing a new National Agribusiness Policy to align with emerging opportunities such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and digital trade.

Mr. Sekyi commended the organisers of the Agri Show for creating a platform that fosters dialogue, collaboration, and investment across the agricultural and industrial spectrum. He stressed that partnerships between government, the private sector, development partners, and investors remain critical to achieving Ghana’s economic transformation agenda.

The opening ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting event, followed by a tour of the exhibition stands where dignitaries and participants interacted with agribusiness stakeholders and explored innovations in the sector.

The two-day programme, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, has drawn together policymakers, farmers, industry players, and investors to deliberate on the future of agriculture and agribusiness in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
