E-commerce Milestone: Committee aims to provide leadership, coordination, strategic advice, and advocacy for Ghana’s e-commerce sector

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has inaugurated a 26-member National E-Commerce Steering Committee to spearhead the country’s efforts in developing a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient digital trade ecosystem.
The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi (MP), who performed the inauguration on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, described the step as “a significant milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey.”
He said the Committee would serve as the principal inter-ministerial platform to provide leadership, coordination, strategic advice, and advocacy to ensure the country’s e-commerce agenda aligns with national development goals and global best practices.
Hon. Ahi charged members to prioritize collaboration, resilience, and innovation in their work. “No single entity can accomplish this mission alone. Success will depend on breaking down silos and building bridges. Our greatest strength will lie not in individual expertise, but in collective action,” he emphasized.
He added that with the right systems, e-commerce could transform lives, such as enabling rural artisans to access international markets. However, he cautioned that challenges like secure digital payments, seamless cross-border trade, and last-mile delivery must be addressed to unlock the sector’s full potential.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Noah Tumfo, who chairs the newly inaugurated Committee, assured stakeholders of the group’s commitment to ensuring Ghana does not miss out on the opportunities presented by e-commerce. He stressed the importance of effective coordination and pledged that the Committee would work diligently to position the country as a competitive player in the digital economy.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a coordinated national effort to harness the benefits of digital trade and create opportunities for businesses and individuals across Ghana.
