Awuku Justifies NLA Sponsorships, Says They Grew Revenue from GHS100k to GHS11m

Samuel Awuku has provided a compelling financial justification for the NLA’s corporate sponsorships, revealing that the very initiatives criticized as wasteful were the engine behind an 11,000% revenue growth for its charitable fund.
The former NLA boss disclosed detailed financials: the Caritas Lottery Platform generated GHS 102,585.23 in 2021, GHS 1,482,432.10 in 2022, GHS 3,221,504.65 in 2023, and GHS 6,251,500.50 in 2024. The cumulative total from October 2021 to December 2024 was approximately GHS 11,048,022.48.
Awuku argued that sponsorships of high-profile events were instrumental in this dramatic turnaround. “The Africa Prosperity Dialogue for instance helped the NLA form some international partnerships, which the Authority is currently exploring,” he noted. He also clarified that his approval threshold was GHS 100,000, with any higher amounts requiring Governing Board approval, ensuring financial oversight.
He framed the spending not as an expense, but as a strategic investment that exponentially increased the pool of money available for the Good Causes Foundation’s projects.
