Galamsey is worse off now than when the NPP was in power – Jimmy Boachie Ansah

Jimmy Boachie Ansah, a member of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Communications Team, speaking on Kessben FM ,has stated that the NDC should focus on fixing the country’s problems rather than complaining about the galamsey menace”.
In a sharp critique of the current government, Jimmy Boachie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asserted that Ghanaians failed to appreciate his party’s efforts against illegal mining (galamsey) and are now facing the consequences under the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”.
Boachie argued that since Ghanaians voted for change, the NDC government must stop “lamenting” and take responsibility for fixing the country, specifically the escalating galamsey crisis. He dismissed the NDC’s common defense of “inheriting a weak economy,” stating they should “desist from saying they came into office late and simply do what’s right for the country” .
The core of Boachie’s argument centered on what he called the NDC’s hypocrisy. He recalled in September 2024, the NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi claimed the “only way to deal with the galamsey problem is to vote for change because the NPP have proven that they can’t fight illegal mining.”
Boachie stated that after attaining power, the NDC has reversed its stance, now arguing that galamsey is a decades-old problem dating back to the Kwame Nkrumah era for which the government cannot be solely blamed.
Boachie contended that the situation has severely deteriorated. “Galamsey is worse off now than when the NPP was in tenure. The NPP fought galamsey better,” he claimed, adding that “our water bodies are now out of hand because the NDC can’t fight galamsey.”He further alleged that during the NPP’s anti galamsey operations, some officials were actively present at illegal mining sites. He specifically named Joseph Yamin, an NDC National Officer, and Kwame Boahen as party officials he accused of “being behind galamsey”
Boachie called for President Mahama to condemn the so-called “GoldBod ” initiative championed by Sammy Gyamfi if any of its gold is sourced from galamsey sites. He argued that such a move would be necessary because illegal mining is “destroying our water bodies, lands, and farms.”
