New executives of YCF @ UEW express gratitude to Afenyo-Markin for unwavering support

The newly sworn-in executives of the Young Commons Forum (YCF) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have pledged their commitment to advancing the Forum’s vision of grooming the next generation of leaders while expressing profound gratitude to the Minority Leader in Parliament, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, for his enduring support and mentorship.

Speaking on behalf of the new leadership shortly after the Minority Leader inaugurated the Forum at the UEW Central Campus, on Friday, September 19, 2025, Emmanuel Osei, the newly elected president of YCF, declared their readiness to carry forward the ideals of the Forum’s founders. He described as a “mighty mentor and senior commoner,” for playing an instrumental role in creating a platform that empowers young Ghanaians to embrace responsibility and shape their future.

“With great pleasure and humility, we stand before you today to spearhead the vision of the dreamers of this noble initiative. We take this moment to thank the Executive Director, the Mighty Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, patrons, stakeholders, volunteers and everyone who believed in the vision of mentoring and empowering young, energetic women and men. The day has come for us to take ownership of our destiny and shape the future. That challenge is what motivates us today to commit ourselves fully to this leadership journey,” he added

Nurturing policymakers

Osei, on behalf of the new executives noted that their tenure would be defined by nurturing policy-oriented leaders, political thinkers, economists, and innovators who can drive Ghana’s transformation. He stressed the need to complement academic knowledge with practical policy engagement if the nation’s development aspirations are to be realized.

“Whilst our tertiary institutions continue to produce graduates rich in theoretical knowledge, this program reminds us of the urgent need to merge that learning with practical policy training. This is the only way we can truly achieve the development we seek as a nation,” he said.

He saluted the Minority Leader for his personal investment in grooming young leaders and entrepreneurs across the country, describing his mentorship as both inspiring and timely.

“Hon. Minority Leader, we are honored to have your presence today. You are grooming policymakers and guiding us as young entrepreneurs. We salute you. With your encouragement and guidance, we are confident that this vision will not only survive but thrive,” he stated.

Osei called on students, stakeholders, and the wider public to support the Forum’s mission. He stressed that building Ghana’s future required collective effort, integrity, and unity of purpose.
