Tamale Mayor Lauds Zoomlion Partnership, Pushes for Extra Equipment to Tackle Waste

Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s Northern Regional Coordinator, Venantius Kuudigr, has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region to request additional communal refuse containers (communal containers) from the company.

He explained that this would improve sanitation and hygiene in the region, complementing Zoomlion’s waste management efforts and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Mr. Kuudigr made the call, citing the region’s growing population, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of a visit by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA).

The committee’s visit to Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) was part of its oversight role, aimed at monitoring sanitation efforts and collaborating with MMDAs to address waste management challenges nationwide.

Mr. Kuudigr noted that Zoomlion has the capacity to provide more communal containers to support local assemblies in managing waste effectively.

He cited the lack of sufficient containers as a major contributor to indiscriminate dumping, stressing that increasing container availability at strategic areas in the various community would help address this issue.

He used the opportunity to praise the Mayor of Tamale for his relentless efforts in addressing sanitation problems in Tamale.

For his part, the Mayor of Tamale, Alhaji Abu Takoro, said TaMA has forged a strong partnership with the Jospong Group which has helped improved sanitation in Tamale.

“Until Zoomlion entered the sanitation space, Tamale was grappling with loads of sanitation issues.”

According to him, among the sanitation problems in Tamale were logistical and financial constraints, dumpsites and their attendant health impacts, and inadequate waste containers.

Despite these challenges, he indicated that TaMA, through collaborations with private companies such as Zoomlion, were addressing sanitation in Tamale and its environs. “We are also aggressively creating awareness among the public on the need to keep their environs clean,”he pointed out.

However, he appealed to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) to make available to them one of four payloaders sitting at the council for sanitation activities.

When granted, the Mayor of Tamale indicated that it will go a long way to keep the Tamale metropolis healthy.

For his part, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation, John Kwabena Oti Bless, assured the Mayor that their problems will be taken up and solutions proffered to them.
