Declare State of Emergency in our Water Bodies and Forest Reserves-Samuel Bekoe

Samuel Bekoe, the executive director of Center for Extractive and Development Africa (ceda) has urged the government to start the declaration ofa state of emergency on our water bodies and forest reserves.”
Speaking with Kojo Preko Dankwah on Kessben TV, he explained how forest reserves contribute to our daily survival, emphasizing water bodies and forest reserves being one one of the key environmental host of our daily survival”
He revealed Galamsey has destroyed these forest reserves and agree with the civil society pleading with President, John Mahama to declare state of emergency on galamsey.
Samuel Bekoe is assured that, the declaration of state of emergency on our water bodies and forest reserves will give water guards the freedom and evidence to sack people engaged in galamsey. Forest reserves is outlawed in the fight against galamsey
He agreed with the President in making reforms in the laws for galamsey claiming over the years, soldiers, mineral commissions, people from national deployed to these galamsey sites was to no avail
Samuel Bekoe mentioned that, Goldbold negotiation with the Government to finance these small scale miners will reduce the propensity in being pressured and take money from other people”
He also highlighted the state of emergency will help the government to put effective measures, train water guards in the fight against galamsey”
The main motive behind state of emergency is for emergency situations clarifying state of emergency as a means to an end not an end itself”
