President Mahama has not complained about commercial travels – Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has clarified that President John Dramani Mahama has not raised any concerns regarding his use of commercial flights for official or personal travels.
The statement comes in response to growing public discourse surrounding the travel arrangements of former presidents and other high-ranking officials.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Hon. Ablakwa emphasized that the former president remains cooperative and has made no formal or informal complaints to the Ministry about his travel experiences. “Let me state categorically that President Mahama has not complained to this Ministry, or to any government agency, to the best of our knowledge, about using commercial airlines for his travels,” the Minister said.
He further explained that presidents are entitled to certain privileges, including travel arrangements, under Ghana’s constitution and related protocols. However, he noted that President Mahama has consistently chosen to travel commercially without requesting special provisions.
Hon. Ablakwa also took the opportunity to call for a more respectful and factual national conversation regarding the treatment and rights of former heads of state. “We must avoid politicizing issues that have clear guidelines and instead focus on governance that respects both our democratic values and our national resources,” he said.
This clarification is expected to quell ongoing speculation and reaffirm the president’s commitment to public service even in retirement.
