The Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund, founded by Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, has marked a new chapter in its journey to provide educational opportunities to needy students in the Bawku West District of Ghana’s Upper East Region. On September 14, 2025, Dr. Krugu formally inaugurated a new five-member Board of Trustees, signaling a renewed drive to expand educational opportunities and strengthen the Fund’s reach and impact.

A New Era of Collaboration and Expertise
The newly constituted Board brings together representatives from key institutions, including the Ghana Education Service, Kusanaba Technical Institute, two respected NGOs, and a student representative. This diverse blend of expertise, community insight, and youth voice is expected to propel the Fund forward, ensuring that it remains focused on its mission to support high-potential learners.

Commitment to Equity and Access
Dr. Krugu emphasized the Fund’s sharpened focus on equity and access, announcing a new initiative that will benefit 20 needy but outstanding candidates from the 2025 BECE. Each student will receive GHS 1,000 to support their Senior High School education, with ten males and ten females selected through a nomination process by the Ghana Education Service.

A Message of Appreciation and Renewal
During the inauguration, Dr. Krugu expressed his gratitude to the pioneering trustees for establishing a solid governance and operational foundation. He presented each with a Citation and a token of appreciation, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to the Fund’s mission.

Advancing Education and Social Mobility
With an energized Board and a clear scholarship agenda, the Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund is poised to deepen its role in advancing education and social mobility in Bawku West and across the Kusaug Toende area. The Fund’s commitment to providing educational opportunities to needy students has already shown promising results, with 50 students supported in the 2023/2024 academic year.

As the Fund continues to grow and expand its reach, it remains committed to its core values of transparency, accountability, and fairness. With the support of its new Board and the community, the Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund is set to make a lasting impact on the lives of many students in the years to come.
