One Region, one duty-free zone policy started under Rawlings in 1995 – Razak Kojo Poku

Speaking with Kojo Preko Dankwah on Kessben TV, Razak proclaimed that, the one region, one duty free zone policy has been there since 1995 noting the enactment of Ghana Free Zone Act 995,Act 504 by Parliament under the auspices of President Rawlings”
He justified Dr. Bawumia claim on Tema Free Zone being the only Free Zone in Ghana declaring it as untrue”
Razak claimed that, there are a lot of free zones in the country emphasizing Ashanti Region having Ashanti Technology Park, Sekondi Export Processing Zone, Sharma Export Processing Zone and Tema Free Zone, these are all duty free zones areas”
He also highlighted Alan Kyeremateng’s tenure as Trade Minister certain initiatives he made to create additional duty free zone areas serving as chairman for Ghana Free zone authority”
Razak again shed light on the licensing made by Ghana Free zone Authority under Act 504 to companies, enterprises, shops, stores being duty free zone companies.
He said, Dr. Bawumia failed to move taxation to production as a promise made to businesses and Ghanaians
“The trinity concerning the business community in Ghana is, exchange rate, interest rate and inflation rate”, he stated.
Razak advised Dr. Bawumia to focus more on the critical issues affecting businesses in Ghana and give more practical solutions faced by Ghanaians”
