Galamsey Fight: This Government is not committed to fighting illegal mining – Charles McCarthy

Managing Editor for the Hawk Newspaper, Charles McCarthy has stated that, the President, John Mahama did not tackle Galamsey and pre-bargaining questions well in the President’s media encounter.
According to McCarthy speaking with Kojo Preko on Kessben TV, he claimed that, President Mahama removed e-levy and betting tax law making reference to a statement given by the President in December 2024 concerning prosecuting corrupt Akuffo-Addo officials”

McCarthy noted that the President was aware there was a Pre-Bagaining law, was preventing him in removing it”, he asserts.

He also mentioned that the mining in our water bodies and forest reserves is what bothers people not the act of mining questioning the President on the revocation of Li 2462.

“You promised us that, you will fight illegal mining when voted as President, 9 months in office, nothing has been done”, This is not the government committed in fighting illegal mining” he added.

McCarthy also highlighted that, the answer given by the President in the media encounter was condescending.”
He said, nobody in government has approached us on the video evidence of people involved in illegal mining in our possession”
McCarthy also stressed on the petition sent to EOCO concerning 43 excavators shared in Tarkwa, EOCO has not invited us yet.

The President is being fed wrong by the Ministers, the national security is in collusion with the ministers with the issue on illegal mining.
