In the election to choose a successor following the untimely death of the late Member of Parliament, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who perished in a helicopter crash with seven other people, Prof. Seidu received 840 votes.

Speaking after the Electoral Commission reported the results on September 6, Prof. Seidu urged his fellow aspirants and supporters to work together for the party’s triumph.

“I think the way we have started, it is important that we continue with this tone of reconciliation and we work together as a party to be able to win the seat for the NDC,” he urged.

Twelve candidates, including three women, participated in the primary, which was held at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. They were all fighting for the chance to represent the NDC in the next legislative elections.

With more than 800 votes voted in his favor, Prof. Seidu’s opponents thanked him when Electoral Commission officials announced the results, recognizing his resounding victory.
