Kenkey Now Costs Ghc7, Akim Swedru MP Slams Govt Over Rising Food Prices

A member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has raised concerns over the rising cost of living in Ghana, particularly the abnormal hike in food prices under the current administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
In a post shared on his personal Facebook page, the MP highlighted the stark difference between the promised economic improvements and the harsh realities on the ground.
“Last time when I made a similar post and complained about the high prices of goods and services, even though we are told inflation and the Cedi have both positively improved, I was attacked by political hawks,” Nyarko wrote, addressing his critics who had questioned his previous remarks. “I’m happy today that their own party man is voicing out the reality on the grounds.”
The MP compared current prices with those under the previous administration of President Akufo-Addo, noting that despite promises of economic recovery, basic goods have become significantly more expensive. “If a ball of kenkey was sold for 5.00 Cedi in 2024 and today the same ball is sold for 7.00 Cedi under the current President, something is not adding up somewhere,” he continued, adding that other foodstuff prices have also risen dramatically in recent months.
Kennedy Osei Nyarko has been vocal about the economic struggles facing his constituents, and he urged the government to take immediate action to address the soaring cost of living. “There are many items in the market that have seen price hikes compared to their original prices from just a few months ago,” Nyarko remarked.
