BCI Launches 2025 Cancer Awareness Walk…Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to Host Participants at Manhyia.

Story By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi

The city of Kumasi is set to be awash in pink and white once again as Breast Care International (BCI), a non-governmental organization, prepares for the 2025 edition of Ghana’s largest breast cancer awareness event.

The event, named the BCI Ghana Walk for the Cure, is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025.

The theme for this year’s walk is “A Cure Worth Fighting For.”

During the launch, the President of BCI and CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals (PALH), Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, announced that this year’s walk is poised to be the most impactful yet, with over 30,000 participants expected from Ghana and beyond.

Event Details and Rationale:
The walk will begin at the Adum Post Office at 8 a.m., with participants marching through the city’s main streets to the Manhyia Palace for a durbar.

Dr. Wiafe Addai noted that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has graciously offered to host the event at the Manhyia Durbar Grounds.

The palace will be transformed into a vibrant space of royalty, solidarity, and hope, she indicated.

According to Dr. Wiafe Addai, this year’s event is more than a traditional walk; it marks a significant rebranding of BCI after more than 23 years of dedication to women’s health in Ghana, Africa, and globally.

The new brand identity reflects the organization’s continued growth, bold vision, and invigorated commitment to fighting breast cancer, she disclosed.

“This is more than just an event. It’s a movement. It’s a family. It’s survivorship, it’s hope in motion,” Dr. Addai said.

She emphasized that breast cancer should be seen not as a personal battle but as a societal and developmental challenge that requires a collective effort.

Commendations and Solidarity
The BCI walk serves as a call to action, a celebration of survivors, and a way to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives to the disease.

At the launch, Professor Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST, commended BCI for its life-saving work.

He praised Dr. Wiafe Addai for her sustained efforts in providing free breast cancer screenings, educational programs, and early detection initiatives that have reached thousands of people over the years.

Solidarity:
Representatives from institutions and sponsors, including Delta Airlines, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Kempinski Hotels, and the Ghana Education Service, spoke in solidarity, describing the annual walk as a national rallying point.

They noted that the event brings together survivors, leaders, officials, healthcare professionals, and communities in a united mission to defeat breast cancer.

Invitation to Participate: Meanwhile Dr Mrs Wiafe Addai has appealed to the public to participate in the walk. “As the world prepares to mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BCI invites the public to lace up, show up, and speak out,”

She appealed to attendees to help “turn the streets of Kumasi pink in what promises to be a historic moment in Ghana’s public health journey.”
