AMMREN Champions Malaria Awareness at WHO Africa Regional Committee Session

The African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) recently participated in the 75th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, held in Lusaka, Zambia, from August 25-27, 2025. Represented by Dr. Charity Binka, Executive Secretary, and Mr. Bernard Okebe, Kenyan Chapter Coordinator, AMMREN reaffirmed its commitment to shaping Africa’s health agenda, particularly in the fight against malaria.

AMMREN emphasized that malaria remains a significant public health challenge in Africa, claiming lives, limiting productivity, and perpetuating poverty. The organization highlighted the crucial role of the media in promoting global health, particularly in achieving the 2030 malaria targets. As a recognized non-state actor of WHO-AFRO, AMMREN delivered two official statements, underscoring the need for collective action to combat malaria.

The 76th Regional Meeting of WHO Afro will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, providing another opportunity for AMMREN and other stakeholders to advocate for malaria control and elimination efforts. AMMREN’s participation demonstrates its ongoing commitment to ensuring that the perspectives of scientists, journalists, and communities inform Africa’s health agenda.
